Karen Somerville: Karen is a graduate of Dover High School . She attended Clarion University with a double major of Special Education/Early Childhood Education. She received her Masters in Education from Penn State University. Karen coached the Susquehannock boy’s volleyball and helped as a volunteer coach with the Susquehannock girl’s volleyball team. This is her third year coaching for the YMCA. She lives with her husband Ron and their three children: Alexandra, Gabe, and Claire.
Meredith Beecher: Meredith has been a player with the YorkYVBC program for seven years. She began volleyball in 2009 by going to the Monday night clinics at the York YMCA and fell in love with the game since then. “I wanted to enhance my volleyball skills, so I signed up for the Dallastown Volleyball Camp, coached by one of our own coaches; Darla Pennewill. In 2010, I joined the York YMCA Volleyball program along with junior high and senior high volleyball at York Catholic.” Meredith was named to the All-Star Team during her career at York Catholic. She coaches the Monday night York YMCA Intramural volleyball program. She is currently attending HACC, majoring in Business Administration. “I’m looking forward to extending my volleyball experiences as an assistant coach. . It is my goal as an assistant coach to help create lasting memories and build a fun filled future in volleyball for your daughter.”
Jon Clinton: Jon is a volleyball enthusiast. He has played for many years in adult leagues. Jon has ten years of coaching club to his credit and returns this year as a head coach. In 2008-2009 Jon was the assistant to the 15 Blaze team and in 2009-2010 was the assistant to the 14 Sparks team. Jon was the head coach of our 15 Blaze team during the 2010-2011 season guiding them to a 2nd place finish at the Martin Luther King Classic. He led his Blaze team to several gold and silver round top finishes. Jon has coached the 16 Fire team and for the past 2 seasons has coached at the 17/18 level. Jon also has coaching experience at the high school varsity level. In addition to being a head coach, Jon is the tournament director for our host YorkYVBC volleyball tournaments. He has been a dedicated coach to the YorkYVBC since its conception.
Jim Sieling: Jim has been around volleyball for 30 years both as a player and coach. He is a dedicated teacher in the York City School District. Jim played at Dallastown Area High School, club ball at Yorktowne (formerly Northtown) and collegiately at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has coached soccer and volleyball for more than a decade. His goal is to have players improve their skill and knowledge and learn to love to play the game.
Dawn Myers: Dawn has been playing or coaching volleyball since high school, having been a three-sport athlete at Spring Grove. She was the varsity coach for ten seasons at Spring Grove, compiling a record of 145-72 during that time. Dawn also was the varsity junior high coach at Spring Grove for fifteen seasons. Prior to her varsity positions she spent several seasons as a JV coach at both the high school and middle school levels. She also ran a 14s club program through Spring Grove for eight seasons. Dawn is currently involved in the New Oxford program. Dawn has been honored as YAIAA coach of the year three times and Hanover Area Coach of the Year two times. Twice her teams have taken second place in the York County tournament and twice her teams have taken second place in District 3. Dawn is a dedicated volleyball fan and teacher of the sport. In addition to being thankful for the wonderful assistant coaches and friendships made through volleyball, she is most proud of the many former players who have chosen to continue loving the sport by playing and/or coaching after high school.
Brandi Kinard: Brandi has played volleyball for eight years dating back to grade school. Her career began in the Spring Grove Area School District where she found a love for the setter position. As a setter, she was named team captain, and a senior all-star for York county. Upon graduation from her alma mater, she decided to continue her career as a setter at York College. Soon after, she opted to transfer to Central Penn College to become a member of the inaugural women’s volleyball team to lead a new program through its inception. Brandi was quickly named team captain and restructured her game to become an outside hitter and defensive specialist to fulfill the team’s needs. During her tenure at Central Penn, she was awarded Second Team All American for the USCAA division. Brandi's time playing in high school and college has helped shape her knowledge of the sport and allowed her to develop into a well-rounded coach. Since graduating college, Brandi has coached three years at Spring Grove Area Middle School. Her love and passion for volleyball and teaching the game has fueled her desire to pursue further coaching opportunities through the YorkYVBC program.
Ronald Somerville: Ron is a graduate of Susquehannock High School. He is currently a Health/Physical Education teacher for Spring Grove School District. He is entering his 3rd year as JV coach for Susquehannock. This is his first year with the YMCA.
Lauren Fink: Lauren is 2013 graduate of West York Area High School and former York YVBC player. She played for Lycoming College Women's Volleyball team starting in 130 matches throughout her four years.
Brittanie Silk: A graduate of West York where she played in high school as a setter and defensive specialist. She is currently coaching for Hanover School District.
